Fine Art | The Poop Book
I signed up for book-making on a whim, but it ended up being one of my all-time favorite college courses. I've always loved books and the stories they held, so the concept of creating my own from nothing but a few raw materials was fascinating to me. Our very first assignment was to create a book using only 6 words that we felt described us, and what resulted for me was affectionately called "the poop book." Scattered throughout this simple accordion-style book are photographs of everything valuable in my life- My friends. My family. Traveling. Photography. Lucas. My artwork. Everything. Each tiny photograph tells a story of a special moment in my life... and the book is a reminder that the people and things these photographs represent, as special as they are, are worthless compared to knowing Christ.
This idea echoes Paul in Philippians 3:7-8, which has long been an incredibly special verse that I desire to live my life in accordance to:
But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.
One of my goals for the coming year is to be more open and authentic here on my blog, and sharing my personal artwork with you is like sharing a giant piece of my heart. I want you to feel like you know me. Not just my photography or what I do for a living, but the core of everything I am. So, in 6 words, this is me.
