The Grand Canyon & Lots of Road Trips | March Highlights & April Goals
Today is April 2nd, which means that 25% of 2014 is already gone... and that makes my head spin a bit. I simultaneously feel like SO MUCH has happened, and yet not very much at all. Like I've done a thousand little things, but not gotten very much closer to accomplishing the goals that I set for myself in January. It's days like this that I feel a bit overwhelmed by the journey ahead, but I'm also learning that these things are a process and I need to cherish the beautiful moments along the way. So March was definitely filled with ups and downs and lots of crazy adventures, but overall such a sweet month in our silly little journey of life.
I attended WPPI and listened to some of the best speakers and photographers in the industry. I also met lots of other photographers and had some of the most wonderful conversations. Even though I kind of hated Vegas, I’m so thankful for the opportunity I had to be there for a week.
On the way home, we saw a sign stating that we were only about 50 miles from the Grand Canyon……. and when you’re 50 miles from the Grand Canyon, you HAVE to go. No questions asked. We didn’t get to our hotel until 1 AM, but it was so. very. worth. it.
I settled back into my normal work schedule and jumped head first into wedding season. I photographed three weddings and three engagement sessions in March, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunities I’ve had this month to chase my crazy little dream.
In fact, I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had a chance to process everything I learned at WPPI and United yet. There’s so much information floating around in my head that I just haven’t had time to think about and implement, and I’m hoping for a bit of a break in April to seriously think about these things.
In my attempt to live a more balanced life and NOT work 24/7, we decided to drive to Nashville and visit Elle the kitten one night. At 11PM. It was wonderful. I also tried to make more time to be with friends, enjoying the warm weather and talking about life.
However, overall, I still have a LONG way to go before I figure out how to live well and not let my work consume my life. I’m still not sure exactly how that will look for me, but at this point, I’m content knowing that this is a journey and I don’t have to figure it out overnight. :)
So in March, I want to continue working on that. To do the things I said I was going to do in April…. but didn’t really succeed at. Like reading more. (I mean, I did read more, but not nearly as much as I would like to.) And running. (I mean, I did run… Once. For 15 minutes. Holla.) I still need to figure out how to break up a bit more with social media and learn to manage my time better. And I definitely need to play with kittens more. Lucas and I visited the human society yesterday and I discovered that having 20 cats crawling all over you, all desperate for attention, may possibly be the best thing ever.
I definitely need more of that in my life.
