Five of the Best Resources for Planning Your Wedding

Being engaged is so much fun. You get to show off that shiny new ring, squeal about it with all your friends, and plan the biggest event of your lifetime. And as exciting as that may be, I know that sometimes it's hard to even know where to begin. There are about a million resources online, and it's easy to get overwhelmed and confused and suddenly planning a wedding isn't quite as fun as it was the day before.

My hope for you is that this entire season will be filled with joy - from the day you say "yes" to the day you say "I do". Below are a few of my absolute favorite resources to help make that a reality as your plan the wedding day of your dreams:

1. Southern Wedding's Joyful wedding Planner

I can't express how much I love the Southern Weddings Planner. I wish I had of known about this thing whenever I was getting married, because it's literally a one-stop shop for organizing all things wedding related. It walks you through everything you should be thinking about (and when you should be thinking about it!) so you don't forget anything important, and it has lots of resources to keep you on track. But more than that, the reason I love the Southern Wedding Planner most is because it's super intentional about keeping you focused on what matters most - your future marriage and the people in your life you love most.

2. Your married friends

If you have friends who have been through the wedding planning process before, utilize them! It's likely that they made some mistakes that they will be eager to help you avoid, and it's also likely that they had some wins that they can share as well! Married friends can be a great resource for vendor recommendations, food suggestions, and general wisdom from someone who has gone before you and likely learned the hard way. :)

3. One Note

You guys. I'm obsessed with this app, and not just for wedding planning! I recently switched from Evernote to OneNote, and I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner! The folder structure can become as detailed as you need it to be (so everything is organized and has its place!) and it's the perfect place for storing all of your inspiration to access on any device. One Note even has a web browser extension that allows you to clip articles and inspiration directly from websites and save it in the app for future reference. Basically, it can be utilized like a private Pinterest with better organization and seamless syncing across all of your devices.

4. Your wedding photographer

Your wedding photographer is a fantastic resource for you as you're planning your wedding. Since they've been through this a few times, they know what looks best in photographs and how to optimize your timeline for a stress free day. Take advantage of the wisdom and advice your photographer can give you, as it often will lead to beautiful photographs and an unhurried day.

5. Your imagination

Ya'll, let's just be real for a second. When it comes to wedding inspiration, there is literally no end to the places you could turn. Countless stunning wedding blogs, perfectly curated Instagram feeds, gorgeous magazines, and on-point books exist to give you an abundance of ideas. But sometimes you can get lost in a sea of other people's ideas. Sometimes the wedding industry can become so overwhelming that you loose sight of what's really important. And I want to encourage you to be aware of that. I want to encourage you to use your own imagination to create a wedding day celebration that's perfect for you. Because at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter if the decorations are Pinterest-worthy or the colors are on trend if you've lost sight of who you are and why you're getting married in the first place.

Here's to creating a beautiful wedding day, but a marriage that's even better.
